Four Mums in a Boat
Four mums in a boat? Yes, in December 2015, four inspirational women from Yorkshire decided to undertake a challenge of a lifetime – they are today collectively known as the Yorkshire Rows. The filming for this NatGeo documentary started in early 2015 when our drone filmed the Yorkshire Rows girls practicing in Scotland on the Isle of Skye just opposite the Talisker Distillery. The deep unforgiving Lochs of Scotland with the harsh Cuillin Mountains of Skye providing a dramatic backdrop to their tiny rowing boat. We were then recommissioned to film more remarkable shots of the team in La Gomera, Spain as they started their gruelling 67 day epic battle with the Atlantic Ocean.
The four mums set off on an amazing challenge to row over 3000 nautical miles across the Atlantic Ocean for charity. The Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge is one of the toughest races on earth and certainly one you wouldn’t expect four housewives from Yorkshire to undertake! Despite numerous technical difficulties, massive storms and long periods of sleep deprivation they went on to accomplish this astonishing feat in a mere 67 days. In doing so they placed themselves firmly into the records books. As testament to their astonishing achievement, their inspirational journey is soon to be published as a book and a movie.

For this project we used a combination of our Sony A7Sii drone, Panasonic GH4R drone and the Inspire1 with the X5 camera. Each drone was carefully selected due to it camera qualities, robustness, efficiency, ease of transportability, ease of setup and finally ease of deployment. Instead of compromising, we selected the best drone for the job based on the operating location and country.
